The Chief Estimator leads the Estimating Team through the estimating process and tender closings, providing accurate cost estimates to support profitability and business development. Strong analytical, communication, and construction-process knowledge are required.</p><h3>Responsibilities</h3><ul><li>Lead the estimating team in preparing detailed and accurate cost estimates for construction projects, including labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and other costs.</li><li>Analyze project plans, specifications, and documents to identify requirements and scope; clarify discrepancies.</li><li>Utilize historical cost data and industry benchmarks to inform estimates and ensure competitiveness.</li><li>Confirm site visit requirements and arrange attendance.</li><li>Supervise and mentor the estimating team; conduct performance evaluations and identify training needs.</li><li>Foster a collaborative environment to promote efficiency and productivity.</li><li>Oversee bid preparation and submission within deadlines; collaborate with business development and project management to review bids, assess risk, and determine pricing strategies.</li><li>Complete pre-bid forms and prepare summary sheets; manage bonding and insurance submissions.</li><li>Collaborate on cost projections with project managers and engineers; identify value engineering opportunities without compromising quality or safety.</li><li>Develop and maintain relationships with vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors for competitive pricing and timely delivery.</li><li>Stay informed on industry trends and market conditions; evaluate competitors and adjust bid strategies accordingly.</li><li>Conduct project risk analyses and implement mitigation strategies to maximize profitability.</li><li>Organize plans and specifications for display and distribution on the website; prepare sub-trade request lists; perform take-offs and ensure understanding of Division 2 and Division 3 scope; read soils and designated substances reports; conduct cut-and-fill take-offs, excavation, site servicing, and concrete quantities and pricing; attend site visits as needed.</li><li>Attend site visits (personal vehicle required) and communicate findings with owner / consultant.</li></ul><h3>Qualifications</h3><ul><li>Engineering degree, Construction Management degree, Technical College diploma, or equivalent combination of training and experience.</li><li>Knowledge of CCDC 5 and CCDC 14; minimum 10 years of experience in the ICI construction estimating field.</li><li>Deep knowledge of construction methods, materials, industry practices, estimating, budgeting, scheduling, and safety.</li><li>Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with Procore, BIM, and related software is an asset.</li><li>Gold Seal and LEED accreditation are assets.</li><li>Proven ability to manage a tender closing; strong communication and leadership skills.</li></ul><h3>Working Conditions</h3><ul><li>Primary work location at Head Office; assist Buttcon East Limited as required.</li></ul><h3>What You’ll Love</h3><ul><li>Opportunity to work with a growing company on diverse projects using advanced software.</li><li>Career development and training tailored to you; inclusive work environment.</li><li>Competitive benefits package.</li></ul><p>Interested candidates are to apply through the below website: https://buttcon.bamboohr.com/careers</p><p>Buttcon Limited is an equal opportunity employer.
