They are known for their commitment to safety, efficiency, and client satisfaction, leveraging skilled teams and innovative technologies to successfully complete projects on time and within budget.</p><p><strong>Job Description</strong></p><p>Key responsibilities for a Chief Estimator for commercial construction projects include:</p><ol><li><strong>Cost Estimation</strong>: Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for commercial construction projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.</li><li><strong>Bid Preparation</strong>: Lead the preparation of competitive and comprehensive bids, ensuring all project requirements are met and aligned with client expectations.</li><li><strong>Budget Management</strong>: Collaborate with project managers and clients to establish budgets, monitor costs, and ensure projects remain within financial constraints.</li><li><strong>Subcontractor & Supplier Coordination</strong>: Solicit and evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring the selection of qualified vendors who provide competitive pricing.</li><li><strong>Project Analysis</strong>: Analyze project plans, specifications, and drawings to identify potential cost-saving opportunities, risks, and areas of concern.</li><li><strong>Risk Management</strong>: Identify and assess project risks, recommending strategies to mitigate potential cost overruns and delays.</li><li><strong>Client Communication</strong>: Communicate with clients, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to clarify project requirements, provide updates, and address issues as they arise.</li><li><strong>Value Engineering</strong>: Offer value engineering solutions to optimize costs without compromising quality or project objectives.</li><li><strong>Report Preparation</strong>: Generate detailed reports and presentations for senior management and clients to support decision-making processes.</li><li><strong>Team Leadership</strong>: Mentor and train junior estimators, sharing best practices and helping to build a strong estimating team.</li></ol><p>These responsibilities require a strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and current industry trends, along with excellent analytical, communication, and negotiation skills.</p><p><strong>The Successful Applicant</strong></p><p>Key attributes include:</p><ol><li><strong>Extensive Experience</strong>: 8+ years in construction estimation, with a proven track record in accurately estimating costs for commercial projects of varying sizes and complexities. Experience with both pre-construction and live project estimating is crucial. Extensive knowledge and experience in SWO is an asset.</li><li><strong>Technical Expertise</strong>: Deep understanding of construction processes, materials, and methods, as well as familiarity with local building codes, regulations, and industry standards. Proficient in using industry-standard estimating software (e.g., Procore, Buildertrend, or Bluebeam).</li><li><strong>Attention to Detail</strong>: Ability to review plans, specifications, and drawings thoroughly to identify discrepancies, cost-saving opportunities, and potential risks. Strong quantitative skills are essential for analyzing cost data.</li><li><strong>Strong Communication Skills</strong>: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively present estimates, engage with clients, collaborate with project teams, and negotiate with subcontractors and suppliers.</li><li><strong>Leadership and Teamwork</strong>: Ability to mentor and guide junior estimators and collaborate with cross-functional teams, including project managers, engineers, and architects, to ensure projects meet budget and schedule requirements.</li><li><strong>Problem-Solving Ability</strong>: Capable of identifying potential risks early and offering creative, cost-effective solutions.
