Audio Visual (AV) Designer

Job Summary:

The Audio Visual (AV) Designer is responsible for designing, planning, and implementing integrated AV systems for a variety of environments, including corporate spaces, educational institutions, events, and entertainment venues. This role involves creating technical drawings, selecting appropriate AV components, collaborating with stakeholders, and ensuring all designs meet project requirements, industry standards, and user expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design AV systems including audio, video, control, lighting, and networking components based on client requirements.
  • Create detailed system schematics, signal flow diagrams, and rack elevations using CAD or AV design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, D-Tools, Visio).
  • Evaluate and specify AV hardware such as projectors, displays, speakers, microphones, video conferencing systems, DSPs, and control systems.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Perform site assessments and develop technical documentation for installation and integration.
  • Provide technical support during installation, commissioning, and testing of AV systems.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant AV and electrical codes, standards, and best practices (e.g., AVIXA/InfoComm, NEC).
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest AV technologies and trends to incorporate innovative solutions.

Requirements:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Audio Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Media Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of experience in AV design or a related field.

Skills:

  • Proficient in AV system design tools (AutoCAD, Revit, D-Tools, Bluebeam).
  • Strong understanding of AV signal flow, acoustics, networking, and control systems.
  • Familiarity with major AV brands (Crestron, Extron, QSC, Biamp, Shure, etc.).
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.

Certifications (Preferred):

  • AVIXA CTS, CTS-D, or CTS-I
  • Crestron, Extron, Q-SYS, or Dante certification

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily office-based, with occasional site visits.
  • May require travel to client locations or event venues.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment as needed.
