Purpose
The Analyst III, Financial Planning and Analysis (“FP&A”) contributes significantly to the development, coordination and consolidation of all aspects related to corporate and business services expenses including direct charges, labour, and corporate allocations. The Analyst III, FP&A will partner with executive business groups across the organization to investigate and explain variances, prepare forecasts, and to consolidate actual and forward-looking information. The Analyst III, FP&A will be a key resource to the preparation of the annual Budget and long-term forecast. This position may also involve working with internal and external auditors.
Accountabilities
Financial Planning and Analysis
- Assist in developing and maintaining short-term and long-term forecasts for several business functions.
- Work with business groups across the organization to better understand financial results as well as risks and opportunities to our current forecast. Effectively communicate these findings to the rest of the team.
- Coordinate with business groups to collect and consolidate forward-looking information used in the preparation of the Company’s annual budget and long-term forecast.
- Perform variance analyses on operating expenses and provide accompanying explanations on business activities and issues causing variances. The candidate will coordinate with functional leads across various departments and geographies.
- Assist in developing business performance presentation materials for senior management teams to facilitate proactive decision-making.
- Coordinate the efforts with various parties within the organization ensuring the completeness and accuracy of information being disclosed within financial statement notes, and Board materials.
- Work with internal and external auditors providing support for management reporting, external reporting, and controls.
Other Responsibilities
- Foster relationships with business groups across the organization to best understanding users’ needs.
- Develop an understanding of corporate direct charges, labour, and corporate allocations.
- Take initiative to develop an understanding of the Company’s utilities.
- Maintain professional skepticism and challenge existing FP&A processes and reporting systems in order to find ways to improve processes and address any control gaps.
- Assist in the development of SAP SAC reports and dashboards.
- Contribute to various management presentations as required.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (e.g. Business, Accounting, Economics, Commerce, etc.).
- Has accounting designation such as CPA (CA, CMA, CGA), or has almost obtained accounting designation.
- 5 years+ of experience in accounting and/or finance roles.
- Knowledge of principles of accounting, finance and management accounting required.
- Ability to create reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals and effectively present information and respond to questions from internal and external groups.
- Prior experience working with SAP SAC is an asset, although not required.
- Experience working in the utilities, energy and/or other regulated industries is an asset, although not required.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail required with a desire to learn.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel and working knowledge in Microsoft PowerPoint and Word.
- Working knowledge with Microsoft Power Query and Power BI an asset, but not required.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work as a team member with peers and management to help drive continuous improvement.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive/confidential information is mandatory.
- Self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic, entrepreneurial environment.
